Laney was my first attempt at writing. Anything! I think the original release shows that, but even so, I'm very proud of what I wrote, the world I created, and of myself for actually doing it. I've also updated that original release of Laney, and I believe that all of my little tweaks have made it a better story.
Sure, yes, it can be a little slow and perhaps other not-so-flattering descriptors, but it is what it is. And being what it is, the innocence of this book, that first love, and all of that cheesy stuff makes me and others love this story so much.
Power through the first two books and get to know the characters and bits of the BHV world, it'll be worth it. I promise. Ha! I really don't because promises are for those who can't keep them. Wise words from a wise vampire.
But trust me. Give Laney and the Brookehaven Vampires a chance. You'll be happy you did.

Looking back, I always see Darkness as filler, a bridge getting us from Book 1 to Book 3, but every time I reread it, I fall in love with it all over again.
Darkness isn't filler. It's super important to the story. Plus, we get to know some of the characters so much better, like Carter, who, I must admit, is my favorite. Shh, don't tell the others!
That all being said, this book breaks my heart with each reread too.
I hope you've read Laney and that you're reading this note now because you want to continue this journey that I am so grateful others have joined me on.

This is where the story began for me.
The very first scene I ever wrote was for this book. However, by the time I got to that original scene, it needed to be tweaked, a lot. I still have it, because as a rule, I don't throw out anything I write, no matter how terrible. It just gets filed away. And, always make a copy before editing. A little writing tip for ya there. Anyway, Tainted Blood is probably my favorite book in the BHV series. Probably because it's where it started for me, but it could also be because of Carter.

Oh, Zane. *Sigh* We wanna hate him, like any bad guy, but everyone has a story, and a past.
Have you ever heard that phrase "You're a villain in someone else's story"?
I won't lie. I'm well aware that I've been the villain. We've all been young and dumb, or older and stupid, but that doesn't justify our villainry (not a real word!). I've also been on the other side of it.
Point is, it was easy to hate Zane in Tainted Blood. To see him only from Laney or the other character's views. But he too has a family, a life and love to return home to. He didn't want to be in our world anymore than we wanted him here. And his circumstances defined who he became while in our world.
I am in no way justifying his actions, but in Zane's case, I needed it to be known that every villain has an origin story...and this is his.

Surprisingly, I wrote Cursed in a short amount of time compared to how long it took to write the first three, and how freaking huge it ended up being!
I loved escaping with Laney and Oliver. I thought I was gonna lose my mind when dealing with Oliver and Carter through the rest of the story though. However, it was exciting to get Oliver's view for the first time.
And I'll leave it at that for now.

I've decided to complete the entire series before releasing BOOK 6. As of Dec. 2021, I have the next 3 books written and the rest of the series is outlined, with much of it partially written. I can't wait to share Laney's entire story with you! Fingers crossed that'll happen soon!

I finished Book 6 in the middle of 2019. Well, not the final draft, but close. It still needs months of work...
However, for the sake of my sanity, and the safety of my characters, I took a break and worked on something else. Also, there's a more detailed explanation in my updates.
I do plan to release Book 6 this year (2020), but closer to winter. That being said, please keep in mind that things can change. That the process of publishing a book can be long and tedious, and I haven't touched Book 6 in nearly a year... I have a lot of work ahead of me. Wish me luck!
